Here’s what you need to know.

If you are operating a small commercial boat (less than 5 gross ton, up to 12 passengers, less than 25 nautical miles from shore), you will need the following minimum certificates. You can get these certifications in just 8-days:

SVOP - Small Vessel Operator Proficiency

SDV-BS - Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (formerly MED A3)

ROC-M - Restricted Operator Certificate Marine Radio License

MBFA (or other provincially recognized 2-day first aid course)

There are some exceptions!

For more detailed information, Datum Marine services has provided you with a handy course requirement chart so you know exactly what you need to get the training you are looking for.
